i understand what you are trying to do. sometimes, when i get a wah sounding exactly with the tone i like, it needs a boost to get it loud enough. i have experienced exactly what you describe.

in these cases i install a post-wah boost in like you say, not the npn boost per se, usually just a regular gainstage. but your idea of the npn boost is good, should work well.

to get the gain where you like it, experiment with the 5k gain pot in (with npn  boost series after the wah), find the gain you like before it distorts, will still have plenty of boost on tap, then install a fixed resistor of that value or just glue your trimpot to that setting.

then you can find the output master volume you like. 100k sounds like a good starting point, play around with linear or audio to see what works best with this setup.i don't know of any previous examples of this exact setup  to use as a guide, a little experimenting will get you there.

my life is a tribute to the the great men and women who held this country together when the world was in trouble. my debt cannot be repaid, but i will do my best.

Ohh, and another thing, when I connect my crybaby, with no battery in it, I still get sound in OFF mode.
Doesn't that means that it's true bypass??  ???

No, it' not true bypass. The circuit is always connected to the input whether it's in bypass mode or not.

It was for this reason that the old wah pedals "sucked tone" really bad and why Dunlop later added the input buffer to the circuit, to avoid the tone sucking problem.
