AB effects looper

Hey guys,

I'm trying to make a looper pedal that allows me to switch between two effects chains with one button and has a bypass to turn of the pedal with another. i used the following layout i found on google images:

it kinda works. the leds work and i can hear the effect working but theres a loud whining sound that over powers everything. Also the bypass doesn't work. it kills the signal of the effects but i have no clean sound. does the layout look correct? i'm too much of a noob to know any better. i'll post a gut shot when i get the chance.

I can't suggest the cause of the noise, but that diagram is a "loop order Flipper/juggler": The left hand 3PDT bypasses both loops, or sends the input signal through BOTH loops in series, with the righthand 4PDT switch choosing either A->B or B->A.

well thats not what i want at all   

the first try i used this layout from ggg:

and it didn't work either. it wouldn't work via battery (the leds) unless you touched the input cable to the box or plugged in a powered pedal. the bypass wouldn't work and the only way i got sound was when i plugged my guitar into another effect pedal and the output of that effect pedal into one of the return jacks. this is really frustrating. I've built a handful of pedals now mostly for my guitar player to use and this is the first one really for me and I'm struggling lol. i won't give up though  if this keeps going i'm gonna need more wire

For the GGG layout, what type of jacks did you use? I think you have to make sure that all jack sleeves are connected to each other, and the layout you provided seems to have loop A's send and return jacks not connected to the rest.

i used a stereo jack for the input and the rest were mono. i just ripped everything out again and i'm going to try the ggg one again. third times a charm right? as far as the jacks not connected i noticed that too, but being such a noob i just figured it was worked out some how on the 4dpdt switch that its connected too.

just rebuilt it again, going off the ggg layout. Same thing as before.i don't get it

I'm not completely sure, but have you tried to check whether or not there is a short between any of the jacks you're using? Worse quality ones sometimes find their way loose and make contact between sleeve and tip connections. I used to have similar problems myself until I stumbled upon some decent jacks that hold up fairly well and do not wiggle.

Drew this really quickly, so it's a spaghetti of wires, but this I'm sure will work (I built two already, sans the master bypass switch). Good luck.

P.S. If your jacks' sleeves make electrical contact with your enclosure, you can forgo the black wires connected to SEND A, SEND B, RETURN A, RETURN B, and OUT.

The green LED's spot is for the A loop, the red for the B Loop, and the white one for the master bypass (on = loops active; off = bypassed).
