First Project Trouble!

I've been reading the posts for a while, did some research and decided to try my first pedal build.  It's a vero board fuzzy elephant, but the schematic I found didn't include wiring for the input, output, power, LED, or switch.  As I said, I did my research, so I thought I knew what was missing and which wire should go where.  Unfortunately, after finishing everything and plugging it in, nothing but hum.  There is an audible click when I hit the footswitch, but the LED isn't lighting. 

I've looked over it a few times and just can't seem to figure out what the problem is.  I'm hoping I just have the power or input wired incorrectly. If anyone could take a look at the schematic I've expanded on below, and let me know that I just wired something incorrectly or there's an easy fix, it would make me amazingly happy.  Thanks for any help!

Well, the LED not coming on is your first clue. That should work regardless of whether or not the circuit works. It looks like that layout doesn't include a resistor in front of the LED. 9v going straight into it will fry it almost immediately. I'm also not understanding how it's supposed to turn the LED on and off. It doesn't look like it does that properly.

Forgot to put it in the schematic, but there is a resistor before the LED.

Maybe you can try doing the offboard wiring differently. I usually use Gaussmarkov's: http://gaussmarkov.net/wordpress/thoughts/wiring-up-a-1590b/ or you can try tonepads version.
Have you tried using an audio probe? It may help you pinpoint where the problem is.

+1 for Gaussmarkov's offboard wiring. I started out with GGG and BYOC kits, and their instructions had me doing the same thing, but not as logically layed out. Once you understand what's going on with that 3pdt, things get a lot easier, and a that wiring just makes the signal flow a little more obvious.

The first thing you skipped was to breadboard to see if it actually worked first...

but that's in the past. After it's soldered, the first thing to do is check to see if it works without the switch...and any other offboard wiring you can eliminate.

get it down to the basics, then re-try. If it still doesn't work, start taking voltages at the transistor lugs as in:

I see how the LED should turn on and off- you are switching the LED's ground; however, there is no connection shown for the PS ground to any of your circuit's grounds.  Nothng will work without a complete circuit back to the PS.  Was that omitted from your circuit or just from the drawing?
