Volume/expression pedal

I would like to make a volume and an expression pedal in one box, probably take an old ernieball volume or something like that,
http://www.strymon.net/tag/expression-pedal this link is usefull but I would like to have both in one change between volume and expression with a switch

so I after checked couple of topic and googled a bit, I still have questions,

The Pot, in volume pedal pot value is around 500k but in expression pedal they are around 10k, should I keep 500k, change for a 10k or somthing between(250k)

probably have full other questions but I will begin with that,

? when you switch from volume to expression, will the volume have to stay at that setting while you use the pedal for expression?
i mean if you use one pedal for both youll need to have it 'remember' the last setting when it gets switched and vise versa when switched back...
that might be hard to do...
