It seems that those mother@#$%ers who are Dropbox don't like people actually using it:

Error (509)
This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!

....so you may notice that each and every photo, layout and schematic that I have posted over the last couple of years has gone South. Mother@#$%er! Hope it's all back soon. In the meantime I'm planning to massively expand the DIY section of my website to include PDFs of all my popular projects. And I very much doubt I shall ever use mother@#$%er Dropbox ever again.

Sorry Rick  :'(

Kinda sounds like the "Unlimited data" plans that the cell companies have over here in the states'

Company: "Sign up for unlimited data starting at $XX/month!!!"

Customer: "Sounds good! I use a lot of data per month.... I'm in!"

After a year or so....

Company: "Dear unlimited data users... we are starting to slow down the bandwidth of users who use more than XXGB per month. -OR- you can purchase an additional plan for more money per month."

Customer: "Uhhhhhhhh..... What happened to my Unlimited data contract?"

Same crap... different media  :icon_rolleyes: Then again, YOU should be the one to pay for the fact that these businesses could not accurately forecast the usage of their products  :icon_evil:

The PITA is that most of the stuff in my Dropbox is a public service - layouts and schematics for you pedal junkies. If my account is suspended longterm I anticipate dozens of emails such as 'hey where have the Little Angel schematics/layouts gone?' etc - I got three today already.. In future I'll host everything on my website, which I pay for, but I can't future-proof the past. It is going to be a total PITA migrating dozens of projects to PDF and rehosting them. There are the 'obvious' projects which will be easy, but there are also 'obscure' projects which I've forgotten I did until someone comes across them, finds the broken links and emails me. Great.

Why should you not have 90o angles? Do the electrons bunch up in the corners?

FC just let me know if you need FTP space. Can lend you a few gigs for 0$ set-up + 0$ / month ("unlimited bandwidth" is +0$)

From their "help center" https://www.dropbox.com/help/45 they suspend your account if a link uses more than 20GB a day, doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in their T&Cs though, the dodgy bastards.

God knows what Rick has that's interesting enough to warrant 20gigs of downloadage though ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if they are checking how many different IP addresses are accessing the account as well as the amount of traffic. Not to defend them but I believe I understand their reasoning. Dropbox is a cloud service, not a file sharing service or web host.

Yeah it doesn't really surprise me either..  Dropbox is for storing your personal stuff in the cloud so you can access it anywhere and maybe share some stuff with friends or family.

It reminds me of direct linking images from other sites on your own site..  and then wen the original image owner finds out, he replaces said image with a nice lemonparty  :icon_mrgreen:

Their wording confuses me a bit - a link, as in a link to an individual file? Or link as in a linked account?

Either way, that's sorry luck Rick. Hoping things work out without too much fuss.

Aah... so you use Virgin Mobile, too ?  :icon_lol: I am on $25/mo plan (300min, unlimited txt data). If I get a new phone, I get bumped to something like $45/mo for the same plan. I never even come close to 300 min's a month (hit a whopping 4 last month!), and data is less than a gig per month. Oh well... nothing like paying for other peoples' boredom or social whoredom.  ;D,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
