I want to purchase some Ge transistors from AMZ, but like to clarify if I'm getting "4" trannies or "2" for $12.

http://www.muzique.com/pcb.htm#trans

I'm interested in the set of trannies down the page, "2N404 germanium transistors (PNP), which are low gain (hfe>30)".   It shows "4" but it states a "set of two" for $12.  Has anyone here ordered these Ge transistors before?  Did you get two or four Ge transistors?

Best to drop AMZ a line about that to be sure.

Is he forum member here?  How do I get a hold of Jack?

Hey BTW pinkjimiphoton.  Dig your youtube videos, "stupid pedal tricks".  So the guitarpcb d'lay sounds really close to an echoplex?  Just ordered it along with pump'd tonebender, pump'd rangemaster and MK, klon clone.

It's just for 2, the picture is just a random pic of the transistors.

"A set of two 2N404 transistors is $12.00"

but not a great deal hfe>30. I don't think it'd be worth that unless they were in the hfe 60+ range...

I dont mean to do Jack out of a sale, but for 12 bucks you could almost have a go at a bulk lot on ebay.  Chances are you would get better / higher hfe's then 30.

Heres a video (part 1) i made as a..sort of guide...to buying ge transistors if you want to go the bulk route:

It did. I haven't got into building anything with germanium transistors, but I might have to take the plunge soon.

Hi
How much money can you save by messing around on scam-bay compared with buying 2 transistors for $$12...
half of a (cheap) beer
1 i-tune
2 miles less driving
3 less cigarettes
4 slices of bread
1/10 of a haircut
1/25th of a tyre

For $12 you get the building-blocks of a great fuzz, or two rangemasters.
If the hFE is a bit low, you get better sag and bloom.

Just my opinion...

Hell, just get a tested matched set from Smallbear and save disappointment and headaches. I love the Tonebender set I got from him, sounds better than anything I could cobble up on my own.

At least with eBay you can get a pile to play with and experiment. Plenty of reputable sellers on eBay supply transistors for alot less than that. You an get plenty of Russian transistors for dirt cheap in the Buy and Sell part of this forum and on eBay. At $12 for two low gain transistors you can do alot better.
