Hello--

Well, I was hoping to do my first build without any help, but I'm completely stumped.  I decided to build the fuzz factory clone on veroboard, and followed this layout:

The bypass works just fine but when the pedal is on, I get nothing.  If I touch the knobs on the pots and wiggle them around, I get a lot of static and popping.  If I play with the stab knob, I get some loud oscillation (I take that to be a good thing given the nature of the pedal??)  I've checked my soldering a hundred times (though I don't have a multimeter to test the connection).  I'm also pretty certain that my layout is correct on the veroboard. I'm not entirely sure that I've wired the ground correctly.  I'm totally stumped.  Any help would be appreciated.

I know the soldering looks sloppy (I'm not very good at it), but there don't seem to be any shorts in the circuit.

You don't appear to have a ground connection on your output, it's a painted enclosure, so you may not be getting a good ground connection, just wire a ground connection between the input and output ground lugs.

With no multimeter, it will be hard to test for continuity and also very hard to mind any small shorts between tracks.
Are you sure you cut the tracks correctly ? no hairline shorts around the cuts ?
Without any test voltages on the transistors it will be hard to debug. You should be able to get a cheap multimeter for the price of a couple of drinks.

Thanks,

I will connect that ground wire and check the connections again on the circuit board.  I have a feeling I will probably have to purchase a multimeter.

...especially if you plan to continue building pedals. even a master can't troubleshoot easily without a multimeter
always think outside the box
