I made one of these , works a treat , dead quiet ... I gig with it ...

12 volts probably gives a bit better headroom too. Mark H often espouses such a supply for extended battery life over a single 9 volt.

Actually it gives me ~ 10.5 V  and with enough capacity for a couple gigs ....  best of all the PB is now self contained .... tossed my noisy One Spot ...   :icon_mrgreen:

Not trying to hijack thread but since it is basically the same question:

I recently built a hamptone jfet mic preamp clone.  I like it alot so I'm planning on adding a couple more to the box and run all the grounds for the boards, jacks, and power supply to a star ground point.  Is this the best practice and would it be better to put it by an input jack, or an output jack, or does it matter?

Supply is a 600ma 24v dc wall wart (puts out 29v) to LM7824 with two 470uf caps.  Preamp draws about 80ma. I am currently using the output jack for all the grounds since input is isolated, and it is quiet enough. I first tried running without the regulator and it was buzzing like crazy.  The wall wart only reads 23 volts without a load, but I finally measured it powering the board and it goes up to the 29volts.  Not sure why? I measured it several times.

Well, figured this one out on my own.

Well the suspense is killing us. What was the verdict?

Why should you not have 90o angles? Do the electrons bunch up in the corners?

There was no capacitor in the wall wart to store the voltage, so my meter was reading the average rectified DC.
