Is there a known good sub for a BAT 42 diode if you don't have those .

Looks like a low turn on voltage .... approx 500mv FV ?

Thanks for any help !!

It depends on what circuit you are building. If the BAT42 is in a clipping section, there are quite a few replacements.
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

Lovepedal COT 50 circuit .
I was hoping to use something more generic ...

Thanks for any help !

Yea, those are for clipping. you can use about any kind of common diode. Like 1n914, 1n4148, 1n34a, jfet transistors wired as diodes, leds, and i think you can use 1n4xxx series diodes.

I'm sorry sir, we only have the regular ohms.

HOTTUBES

AWESOME !!! :icon_biggrin:

Thanks alot for helping !! ;D

HOTTUBES

But ......

Silly question !!

Why do they ask for the BAT42 in this build ?

haveyouseenhim

I guess that's what the designer liked for its clipping sound. I believe bat42 is germanium so the 1n34a would be the closest substitute.

OK !

Thanks   !!!!!!!!!!!!

The BAT41 is a small signal schottky not germanium.

What I would do is snap off a few pins from an inline socket, solder those in place of the diode, and experiment with a few different diodes along the lines of what haveyouseenhim mentioned to see what sounds good to you in that circuit.

You'll also gain a bit of knowledge as to what each type sounds like.

if the circuit is designed so that clipping at the BAT42's forward voltage sounds nice, just get another schottky at about 0.5V.

but like the above posters say, clipping diodes are all about experimenting. and try different ones in each place, so a 1n34A going one way, and a 1n4148 the other
