I have what hopefully is a simple problem with a simple solution. The solution is evading me.

I have two 3.5 stereo mini jacks each wired to a single 12V DPDT Relay. The Tips & Rings are wired to the corresponding sides. The Sleeves are wired to each other and grounded to negative (which removes the ground hum).
When I give the relay 12V it connects Mini 1 T to Mini 2 T, and Mini 1 R to Mini 2 R.
I have Mini 1 connected to an iPod and Mini 2 to a mixer. So basically it acts like an on/off switch on the ipod output to the mixer.

My problem is an Audible Pop when it switches on/off. How do I get rid of the pop?

to complicate things just a little more. a photoelectric beam is what completes the power to the relay.
12V + connected to Relay and sent to + of photoelectric beam. It is also sent Negative. When the beam is broken it connects Negative to Negative on the relay, and it switches.

I dont know if this works with relays but try adding a pulldown resistor. AKA a 1M resistor from input to ground.

I'm sorry sir, we only have the regular ohms.

no that didn't help. thanks.

Quote from: R.G./GeofexThe neat way to defeat the clicks is to slow down the change in voltage across the inductor.

I've tried this and in my case it worked up to a point. I was modding my Bad Horsie wah to be relay bypassed instead of JFET bypass. My clicks when from audible to barely audible. It may be the particular relay that I was using (NEC-EA2), a better relay might have even less to no click.

Thank you.  This looks like the right track.
