ok so i have been working on this for over 5 hours and im not prone to giving in but i just cant make sence of this and wonder if someone could help me

all parts are specified here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/60093569/Doc4.jpg/render.gif
the setup im testing with is a dc 9v adapter (checked at 9.7) with an 8ohm speaker and a standard guitar jack witch i have run sound from my guitar mp3 player and another amps headphone lead: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/60093569/Doc4.jpg/14092012144.jpg ok so the blue line is the hot tip on the jack and the black one is the ring. the red and green go to the speaker and the red and white are power in (red is 9v white is ground)

the only thing i didnt really change much but it is very compact and its only perfboard: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/60093569/Doc4.jpg/14092012156.jpg
aaaand i know my soldering is horrible: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/60093569/Doc4.jpg/14092012145.jpg i have run a scalpel up and down the clear lines to make sure no shorts

pinout of the ic gives me
L1: 4.57        L3: 5.17           L6: 6.35          L7: 9.39
L2: 4.41        L4: 5.17           L5: 4.57          L8: 5.77

and on the j201 i get D: 0.43         S: 0.40           G: 1.07

originally when i plugged it in the speaker would pop then hum really quietly and after adjusting the trim to get lower than 4.5V on L1 it would start popping and clicking repeatedly (so far as i know L1 is supposed to be trimmed to 4.5) then i noticed that C3 was not soldered to the G leg of the j201 and now there is no buzz no popping nothing but it still pops when i plug the power in

any ideas lads?

definately something wrong there, the pins 3/4 should be '0v' = ground..

edit:  pin 6 should be 9v..

386 chip pins

1             8

2             7

3            6

4            5

also make sure you connect those grounds together......the power ground 0v, and the jack input/output grounds....

good luck, rob. ;)

edit;

vr1 is for biasing the fet/tranny to 4.5v ..or till it sounds ok..

vr2 is for volume...

vr3 is for gain level....

ok so after a very lowtec resoldering iv got the sleave going to the ground side of the speaker and the black wire (out of the black and blue) now going to the top ground rail

and suddenly sound...there is however alot of buzzing and its very crackly but its there...i assume from here on out its just setting the trims up right?

you sir have been rediculously helpful...thank you so much im so close to getting it working right i can literally feel it....just burned myself lol

lol...no probs..

tweak that vr3 (gain ) to off then you should be aiming for a clean sound on the vr1....4.5v ish oon the drain of the fet...

sorted!.. ;)

great stuff....now i just gotta figure out where this damn buzz is coming from

i think when i sort the grounds out in a second itll go away

turned the vol down on my guitar...buzz went away...soooo it sounds good till i try to play it, why does that sound strangely fitting
jack is wired wrong way around -_-

tca

Replace the old battery, if that is the case, with a fresh one.

Cheers.
