what up y'all ??

i just inherited a small batch of realy good germanium 2N508A!

I tested them all, pretty much all in the 100-130 hfe range and alot have low leakage, ( from 6ma to 200 ma approx).

I'm looking for circuits to try them in, I know a lot of fuzzes can be done but i'm looking for alternative circuits.

I'd be realy interested in trying a good germanium mic preamp/Di or something along the line ??
Something that would have color, not realy for a cleanish preamp...
I also have a bunch of Triad a-67j  input transformers.

Anybody has a schem or idea what i could try with these ???

something along the line of the Chandler ( wich is very good)  or like vintage Neumann or Telefunken ???
Maybe more of a Geekslut topic but i know folk here know their Germanium.

Thanks alot !

fuzzo

I've got this schematic that I took on a discution thread (on the other forum ) about the new chandler preamp :

Otherwise you can take inspiration from any old mic preamp design .

early marshall supawah was Ge. soundclips sound damn nice.

GS wylie used to have a simple mixer schem online made of pure germ juice.

thanks Fuzzo, thats the Rca preamp! i will investigate if it's do-able, If i can find the other transistors ect.....

I want to looks into vintage preamps,  i  need to find one simple enough with sourcable parts.

and Thanks Joe! I didnt know about the supawah, looks very intersting, i'll keep an eye open for 1h inductors!
that mixer looks cool also!

any other ideas?

the 2N508a i have are suposedly very good low noise germanium transistors, low leakage. and i have enough to match them.

Thanks
I will try some fuzzes of course.

two regular run of the mill inductors in series does 1h pretty well. also, it is reported that various original units have measured at 800mh all way the to 1.5h.

brad from creepyfingers ( fu manchu bassist) had a custom 1 h inductor made for his term strip build, sounded great- nice and deep.
