Dear DIY-people,

Recently I sold all my pedals and bought a Axe-Fx... But do not fear, I still need your expertise to guide me through my next build.

I've got a midi footcontroller which can take up to 4 expression pedals. I'm only panning to use two foot expression pedals, but I would like to utilise the controller to it's full potential. I would like to build something like the Nose Expression Pedal, which uses a knob which you can turn instead of rocking your foot. If I didn't had specific need, I'd just buy the nose... But I'm not looking for one in an enclosure.

I'm building my own custom pedalboard and I'm going to integrate those expression pots into a wooden panel in the case. I know how to solder, but I have no idea how to make my own expression pedal with a potmeter going to a TRS plug.

I hope someone can help me or provide a schematic. I've used the search function, but I can't find any information that gives me an answer.

Thanks in advance!

google is your friend... ;)

Thanks for the quick reply. I had already read that article, but I'm not sure how to start making one. If I understand correctly:

I use a 10k linear pot and connect:

- LUG 1 to a 1K resistor to the TIP of the TRS
- LUG 2 to the RING of the TRS
- LUG 3 to the GROUND of the TRS

Is it just that simple?

Sorry for the double post, but I was wondering how necessary the resistor is? I found some other schematics which didn't use a resistor.

yep it is that simple, i just used a pot for my expression pedal....try it with the resistor, and without... ;)

And did you use a resistor? I'm just curious what it does (as I don't have any in depth understanding of electronics).

deadastronaut

i didn't use a resistor (its there as a current limiter apparently)

wire a pot up with the jack and try it....mine works fine without it...(using an old korg ax300g)
