Hi all,
Loving the site even if i am a bit confused at the moment. I'm trying to make my first pedal and at the moment all i have for jack sockets is two of these in the pic below. Can someone tell me how to connect them. They have four pins on them so I'm stumped as the pedal i'm trying to make (The IC Based Overdrive Project) doesn't use these. I have the ones from the ic project ordered but since i'm only breadboarding this pedal at the moment i thought i'd try and get these to work. Thanks. :)

Here's the sockets.

Two of the pins disconnect when a jack is inserted. Figure  out which and use the other two, the ones to use will lift slightly when a jack goes in.

By the way. Input normally uses a stereo Jack. Not for stereo input,  but to keep the battery disconnected when no jack is in.

OK thanks Kesh. I'll try it out now.  ;)

Just cant get my head around it. I've tried every combination and still cant get no sound from it. Scrapped the ic overdrive pedal and thought i'd do something simpler like the LBP-1 booster.
Still no sound. I think i'll wait till my new jacks come then try again. No doubt there's something else wrong too since its my first pedal. I thought it would be straight forward but it's not. I never seem to have the exact caps or resistors. Plus they're a nightmare to shop for. What you need is never there in one store. :(

Use the two pins that you can see in the picture you posted.  The ones at the back are disconnected as Kesh says when the jack is inserted, so ignore them.  The one at the front (left, nearest the nut) is the screen.  The other is for the signal.  As Kesh says, it's more usual to use a stereo input jack if you're using a battery.

There are lots of places to show how to wire jacks, footswitches, batteries and DC sockets.  Here's one for example from Tonepad: click here.  Page 5 might be a good place to start.  Have a read, then come back and ask questions!

Ha ha.  Am I showing my age / location / background?   ;D   Yep, "ground" might indeed be better...

thanks for the replys guys. My new jacks come today. So i restarted on the LBP-1. No sound from it at first unless i touched the metal casing on both guitar leads. I noticed i placed a cap in wrong position so i corrected it and voila! My first pedal. It's not a very exciting pedal but it's a start. Thanks again guys and to this forum too for all the info.

Congrats.  And welcome (belatedly) to the forum.  No going back now...   :icon_twisted:
