Two effects, sharing one battery.?..

Simple question:

I want to build two effects in one enclosure, so I can alternate between them with one stomp.. can they both draw power from a single 9v battery?  Will they require dedicated batteries?

For instance, a Bazz Fuzz and a Mini-Booster...

Thanks in advance. :)

After reading Mr. Orman's Dual Booster PCB page, two independant effects sharing a single 9v battery seems reasonable.. goody.

Don't be misled by the notion of "two effects".  Plenty of effects that run for a reasonable period of time off one 9v battery incorporate more semiconductors than the two you are broaching as separate effects.

Ultimately, it's not how many things are included, but what sort of total current draw they require, in addition to things like type of ground.  So, the total current draw for a Fuzz Face and one of the ROG amp emulators might be reasonable, but the PNP Fuzz Face will have a positive ground where the ROG circuit will have a negative ground.  = no go for a single battery.

If your bass fuzz is a Fuzz Face variant, be aware that it would not have a bypass capacitor, meaning you either have to add one or you could get interaction between the fuzz and the booster.  Be sure both circuits are properly isolated from each other by good bypassing.  Neither one takes much current, so it should not consume batteries all that fast.

Thanks for the confirmation, warnings and advice folks.. much appreciated.  Looks like my project will be fine, since both circuits use negative ground and have a low current draw.  The Bazz Fuss does have DC blocking caps in front and back.. I've tinkered with different values, but settled on a pair of NOS WIMA 0.47µf in 5mm red boxes.

I love the Bazz Fuss for that super saturated/fluid/over-the-top lead sound.. but, it sounds the sweetest without any other dirt pedals.  Alternating between it and a fairly clean Mini-Booster really covers a lot of territory.  Combining them in one enclosure (with the Fuzz first), and using a single stomp to toggle back and forth would save a step [literally].  Plus, I'm really in to building new boxes lately.

Thanks again.
