Understanding why my DIY tripple-fuzz blew up

A while back I built a triple fuzz pedal consisting of

No Joke Fuzz - Muff Fuzz - Another No Joke Fuzz

Schematics:

Each fuzz has its own volum and bypass control. The pedal also has a master-bypass and a passive positive feedback loop. (going from output to input with a resistance of 5k to 500k).
It should be noted that when all 3 modules are active the pedal is non-inverting.
After playing around with it on some extreme settings the first No Joke Fuzz transformed into a white noise generator :P
Up until this point I was able to produce some killer sounds with the pedal (I do noise music  ;) )

Soooo my question is: Are there any glaringly obvious design flaws that I should have been aware of when I put this thing together?

I do realize the No Joke Fuzzes has no pull-down resistors on the input. I know this decides the impedances of the pedals, but is this also a design component that keeps the pedal from being blown apart when introduced to a very loud signal? My goal is to put together a new and secure version of this pedal.

I doubt if anyone'll be able to help much unless you show the exact wiring you used

you haven't even mentioned which component(s), if any, went bad...
always think outside the box

Were those transistors Nitrates or Germaniums?  :P

I used only silicone transistors.
The wiring would be putting as following:
The exact schematics in the order i wrote, volumes at maximum and a resistor of 4k7 ohm from the output of the last No Joke Fuzz to the input of the first No Joke Fuzz (feedback at max).
The reason I didn't go through with the trouble of putting together a schematic specifically was that I suspected the problem with the design in general could easily be spotted. sorry  :P
Ill try to have a full schematic up soon.

Im pretty sure I damaged the transistor of the first No Joke Fuzz. The two other circuit modules are still intact

thanks for tuning in!
