I'm not sure how to phrase this question.  I'm just going to post what I'm thinking about and hopefully I'll get a response.

I'm looking for opinions on the most natural sounding clipping element for high frequencies.  Or to put it another way which distortion engine gives you all the most natural highs without a ton of frequency manipulation.

Most of the circuits I've been building have a synthetic sounding high end.  It works in a lot of situations but I'm looking at maybe doing a mutliband distortion and I'm trying to decide on the best way to clip each frequency band.

My plan right now it to do lows with opamps and highs with FET's but I haven't built many FET distortions so I don't know if I'm heading in the right direction or not.  I prefer opamps over transistors so there may be an opamp based clipping circuit I haven't tried.

This will be for bass guitar.

Thoughts?

Or we could say, which pedal have you played that had the best sounding high end?
