Can you plug the unused daisy chain plugs back into your power supply?

Hi There,

After a few issues I discovered that I needed to insulate unused plugs in my daisy chain - quick question:

If your power supply has multiple ports, can you just plug the unused ends back into the power supply - or is that a stupid thing to do?

Cheers

Ben

It is critically dependent on what those other ports have connected to them internally. The devil is in the details.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

When I bought my daisychains they came with some surgical tube around the jacks, you might want to give that a try to isolate it. Or if that fails just get some of that volcanic isolation tape and tape the connector in it. As R.G. mentioned if you don't know what the jack connects to there is no way to know what will happen.

I know there are these little black rubber "socks" or "jackets" commercially available that cover the entire barrel of a bare plug so it won't short to anything, I just can't seem to find them at the moment.

I use this stuff for that kind of thing.  http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-16172/3M-Electrical-Tape/3M-2155-Rubber-Splicing-Tape-3-4-x-22?pricode=WU325&gadtype=pla&gclid=CKmMw4XWprQCFep9Ogod8VUAYQ

It bonds to itself and doesn't leave a residue, I use it for everything, especially making cable snakes.  It's like $4 at Lowes
