Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

You used to see a lot of those bands using JCM2000s and Dual Rectifiers. I think they starting moving over to Orange amps and maybe Mesa Stilettos.

A Crunch Box or Dr Boogey would get you those sounds pretty well. The Boss SD-1 is more of an overdrive than a distortion. If those bands use overdrives at all, they're usually Tubescreamers.

Than go for marshall shredmaster or barber dirty bomb. And push it even further with TS/SD combo.

Yes, a lot of bands run Tubescreamers in front of their amps. The distortion comes from the amp, and the Tubescreamer just pushes it harder and tightens up the bass. To do this, you keep the drive down all the way and keep the level turned up most of the way. You can do the same thing with a Boss SD-1.

The Crunch Box is a distortion pedal that sounds very much like a Marshall JCM. I use one for my distortion when I can't being my JCM 800, though it might sound a little more like a JMC 900 or 2000 than an old single-channel 800. I don't know what you mean by 'fat pig', but it should get about as close as you can to the Marshall sound in a pedal.

The Dr Boogey is a Dual Rectifier preamp, but instead of tubes, it uses transistors. It's the perfect distortion pedal if you want to get a Dual Rectifier sound, and it works very well when pushed with a Tubescreamer.

A tubescreamer driving a hot channel of a tube amp gives the sound pure balls. Noisy as f*ck but boy, what balls!
