How could this be used in a pedal, sure would save a lot of space and if somebody stole your pedal you could track them down and...? :icon_twisted:

Great, it's already here, now they can track us all offline as well. The next step is to "beam" selected advertising directly into my head.

QuoteInvisible tracking brings to mind science-fiction-inspired uses, or even abuses, such as unknowingly getting sprinkled with smart-tag powder for Big Brother-like monitoring.

"We are not imagining such uses," Takeuchi said, adding that the latest chip is so new — and so miniature — Hitachi is still studying its possible uses.

I wonder why I don't really trust him when he says that

From an electronics/electrical standpoint tho seems to be the most interesting part
Quotethey need to be brought near special reading devices that beam energy to the chips
I thought that sending power wirelessly was the Holy Grail (think Tesla). I remember watching a scientist display a charging point, where you can lay your phone and get it charged, the reporter
extrapolated to sending power wirelessly and the scientist pretty much suppressed a grin and seriously explained how impossible that was.

Interesting. I've been watching the Gps revolution. There's a TED lecture on the net about this suggesting that in a few years anything you own that's worth more than 10 dollars will have a chip on it, plus things like your car keys, the tv remote etc., so
we will never really lose anything again. The positive aspects are very interesting culturally, for example, we could remove the possibility of simple theft from the hands of at least the poor in society.
The negative aspects are pretty scary. Who controls that data flow. Have capitalists turned out to be self regulating morally upright individuals or will they do anything for a buck if they think they can get away with it?

Indeed, have socialists turned out to be self regulating morally upright individuals, or will they do anything to make other people do what *they* think the right thing to do is?

The bigger issue is that regardless of the person's political leanings, from 1-10% of the population is subject to Narcisisstic Personality Disorder, where they *are incapable* of considering other people as other than tools for their agendas. Worse, the intelligent, high-function section of that group has the ideal set of skills to succeed in getting into positions of power, whether in business or government.

Finally, the business of all governments is the exercise of power. Over time, all governments will tend toward using all available technology to keep and extend their power over their and other populations.

So yeah, this is kinda bad for individualism. But the businesspeople-capitalists are not the issue. When the governments start "outlawing theft" and "aiding law enforcement" by requiring electronic taggants in everthing, that's a real problem. Unfortunately, even populations who can vote and force their governments to change appear to want bread and circuses from those governments, not respect for the individual.

Ah! I don't really look at it as Capitalists or Socialists in a political sense. There are only Capitalists in power, governments are controlled by companies we live in a corporatocracy in my view. However, I respect the rules of the forum and wasn't really opening a party political debate although I can see that I wasn't clear enough.

I might as well have said that anyone in power is going to use this technology to keep the sheeple at bay and consuming.

Quote1-10% of the population is subject to Narcisisstic Personality Disorder
This is interesting. I wasn't aware of NPD at all until recently when I suddenly found out about the condition and that my ex-wife suffered from it. I googled "lack of empathy" - that was a eureka moment, explained a lot of things.  :D
I have a great book now "Disarming the narcissist (surviving and thriving with the self-absorbed)" - Wendy T. Behary, LCSW. Brilliant

I don't disagree, there's going to need to be a sea change in attitudes before anything changes, a great surge in empathy. Hmm ....

Sorry for dragging your thread a bit OT J0K3RX

I wasn't implying that you were A) Disrespecting the rules of the forum or B) starting a party political debate either R.G.  :icon_eek:
Oh oh, tricky stuff, tricky stuff, we'll be in the members only section in a minute and no one will ever read J0K3RX's news.

Definitely surprised to see a copyright date of 2007.  I wonder what happened to this little guy.

Any ideas on how you might defeat something like this? I have a couple of my own ideas just want to see if you guys may have any?

These are a subclass of taggants.

A quick stop at wikipedia gives some background on taggants.

Yeah, I know what they are but can you destroy them with say an electric charge or are they not sensitive? Seems like a good stun gun (not a taser) zap would cook them, no?

I know microwave will destroy them but that is a shitty option... if one happens to be installed in let's say your body for example :icon_twisted:

I think the problem might be finding them. Once you've got hold of one I imagine a hammer would slow them down a bit.

Wander around a Tesla field?  ???

edit: Concentrated EMF fields are really well suited for "neutralizing" electronic circuits.

Well, I would be willing to take a hit with the good old stun gun to rid my body of big brother... I have been jolted with it a few times already just messin around so it's kool :icon_twisted:

Tesla coil sounds like a fun alternative :icon_twisted:
