I've already fuddled around with this a little.
While it's not really a pedal, its a pedal type question.
The peavey vypyr dsp main board (same for all amps) has an analog transistor based distortion.
Frankly I can't stand the tones sometimes. I cut the high end on the last op amp,
added a level dropping pot between the two stages. tweaked the low end a tad. Better.

I think it might be nice to "alter" this circuit to make a more usefull in amp distortion.
In particular the Diezel sim is ch2 and 4, not ch 3. By altering the analog circuit I found
we can get it to sound way better.
Maybe even replacing the second stage with a bs170 circuit?
Perhaps someone could take a look at the schematic and explain it.
It's the TT gain circuit.
Thoughts.

I forgot I raised the gain on the first stage with very nice results, then lowered the second stage
input level.

All TransTube analog circuits are patented and the documents explain very well how they work.

Google patents search can find the documents in a heartbeat.
