Thought i'd ask here,does anyone know what type of pen is used for writing on pedals,like the Bearfoot pedals here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUz6VOSlFPo&feature=em-uploademail

POSCA my friend, POSCA pens are the only way (despite the cost  ) They're paint pens which are totally opaque and will write on pretty much anything.

Did this with a few pens over a black powder coat, including the white for the lettering

I use Sharpie brand oil paint markers, they work great. Some have very fine tips for knob labeling.

So will a rattle can clear coat happily go over either of these two?
I have tried a range of markers, including the standard sharpie but they bleed all over the show.

Cheapie gel ink pens seem to work great though

The posca pens seem to withstand acrylic lacquer ok, so long as you don't put it on too thick. Here's an enclosure I clear coated today-




Good times with silver ink, which is a bitch to work with- it's thin and messy

Hahahaha, I couldn't bring myself to time it! A few sessions of an hour or so would be my guess- I work shortish sessions otherwise I get wound up and frustrated. If I look at the box and don't know what I'm going to draw next, or find myself thinking about it, I put it aside and do something else. I don't think I could do these to a schedule without having some kind of design made up beforehand, which kind of defeats the point of it for me

If you draw enough random shapes, it will always result in a few %^&*s- I have learned to live with that
