OK, schematic updated with a few more notes. Sounds like there were ultimately a few different versions as far as pot/transistor combinations.

Just thought I'd post this for posterity.... I measured my OEM pot last night out of curiosity and it measured 85K. It's a linear pot and personally I think the sweep is just fine.
