with my Schaller Bow Wow Yoy Yoy clone. Now that it has the right parts and the approximately the right inductors in it (370mH & 1.6H), it has become my favorite wah pedal. Thanks to everyone who helped me verify the actual parts used in the real ones!  :icon_razz:

I love my Ibanez Weeping Demon. I look forward to building a wah, but for now, its the bees knees.

Haven't tried that one yet.

No problem brother. That's what we're all here for. If you wish you might want to try these cap values, and trimmers where spec'd, as well (ignore inductor values, we know those are wrong);

I left one of my units stock, and the other modded as above. It has a bit of a throatier response, which I prefer over the original in Bow mode. In Yoy mode, with heavy fuzz, it sounds almost phaser'esque.

So for posterity, can you note which inductor should be which new value in the diagram above?

This is the ONLY correct schematic on the internet as of right now: http://diyguitarist.com/Schematics/BowWowYoyYoy.gif
Pretty much means that it's not really a DIY project unless you get lucky and find some inductors that are close enough to work OK (as in my case).

digi2t

Original spec's (note that the correct inductor values are marked);

I forgot to mention in Paul's other thread on this puppy, the 15K resistor above Q1 in my original one was 12K, as shown in my mod schematic. The originals may have changed values, as required by the transistors used at the time.

I appreciate the help on it! I did see that schematic of yours. Maybe someday I'll try those changes, but for now I am really diggin' the stock circuit. I have noticed that with humbuckers the yoy yoy setting is a little stronger. And if you mess with Q1 and put a little higher gain transistor in it it will also help with that when using single coils.

I did a quick soundclip of my BWYY clone and put it here: http://www.diyguitarist.com/Sounds/BWYY-1.mp3

It starts out in yoy yoy mode, then goes to regular wah mode and then back to yoy yoy mode.

Signal path was: BWYY --> overdrive pedal of my own design --> MN3007 ADA Flanger clone on a chorus setting --> Condor speaker cab simulator --> Zoom 9030 for delay and reverb.

This is with a 100K rev log pot in it and inductor values pretty darn close to what was used in the real ones.

Lovely, just lovely.  I hope the two of you have many wonderful years ahead of you.

As for me, I need more yoy in my life.  I have a tapped choke that is 900mh in total, about 660 from one end to the tap, and maybe 100 from the other end to the same tap.  I bought a few of them and made a terrific throaty wah with one (using the first 600-700 or so mh).  I'll have to put the others to use on some yoy.

Yeah, I think it will be till death due us part.  :icon_lol:

That's the only thing about the BWYY circuit, the inductors. Unless you get lucky like me and have some pulled from a old piece of equipment that are real close to the values used in the real BWYY pedals, you can't get a clone that sounds right. You can kind of do it if you have several inductors. You could use three 600mH Dunlop inductors in series to get about 1.8H (close enough for the 1.7H inductor) but you're kind of stuck on the 300mH inductor.

Mark Hammer

Well, I have a wide assortment of suitable magnet wire, and a meter that will let me measure inductance.  Perhaps I can wind my own.

good God man! my ears are elated. i thought a phaser and delay was fun, but that sounded sublime-a-yoy-wahtastic.

Ha ha, glad you like it. Best wah ever I think. I built it ten years ago but the schematic available online was incorrect. Now that it's built right, I'm lovin' it!

Aww Man! The sound clip sounded so awesome! I want one , too bad the inductors are hard to come by. Maybe some years down the road I can roll my own inductor with one of those tattoo coil hand winders.

Great sound clip again man and nice work on the corrected schem guys! I love the yoy and vocalish style effects , Been wanting one ever since I seen digi demo a few different ones like the talkalizer and the phase 2.

It appears that I technically have the only clone in the world at this point in time. I hope you guys you can build one somehow.
