Guys! Please help!

I built fuzz face using silicon bc109b with negative ground ! It sounds pretty cool BUT there are some popping sounds when it goes on or off  :icon_neutral:

I have pulldown resistor of 1 M Ohm at the start ... and it worked well in my other builds but not here  :icon_frown:

I've checked all the connections and everything seems to be ok!

I used this schematic from fuzzcentral http://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/fuzzface/fuzzfacenpnschematic.gif with 1M pulldown resistor going from input to ground before 2.2 uf cap

Any ideas, guys? Hope someone will help me!

Does it still pop when you turn it off and on a few times?

Popping - as opposed to clicking or ticking - is nearly always caused by switching from one DC level to another. You need an output capacitor and a pulldown resistor on the output as well as the input.

Do a search on my post on popping/clicking/ticking/thumping in the last week or so.

There is an article on geofex about this issue. It's worth reading, as is the rest of geofex.

rousejeremy , yes it does.

Arcane Analog , no i didn't.

R.G. , thanks! Forgot to look there first. ::)

Well output pulldown resistor didn't work for me , eh  :icon_sad:

Maybe my NOS mullard tropical fish at the output became too leaky ? What do you think guys ?

Thanks!

Get out your meter and measure for DC on the input and output pins at the PCB in both bypass and effect setting, across those pulldown resistors.

It's more likely to be a soldering or wiring problem than a leaky mylar cap - which is what "tropical fish" caps are.

R.G. , I checked all the connections again and resoldered suspicious ones

Measuring DC on the in and out gave me 7 volts in both engaged and bypassed  :icon_confused: I guess it's alright ?

It still pops

R.G.

If the voltage on input OR output is anything other than 0.000000V, it will pop.

You have a wiring problem, or a short on the board that's letting DC through.

Ok , thanks I'll check it one more time  :)

No unwanted contacts here

Input plldown resistor is on the right , volume pot of 500K serve as a pulldown resistor at the output ( adding pulldown resistor at the output didn't change anything , and then I read about volume pot at fuzzcentral) ... no unwanted contact between components has been noticed , I checked all with my meter

Filtering cap of 100uf , no battery provided

Fuzz pot

Volume pot

So here it is ...

I triple checked just everything and it still pops... what do you guys think? maybe electrolyric caps are bad?  :icon_sad:

voltage between in and out is still 7 volts ... though when bypassed it's 0
