Hey guys,
My brother in law bought one of these (aldi / livingstone delay).  Plugged it into his amp.  Immediately i said "Got to be a pt2399".  We opened it up and sure enough it was (smd pt2399)!

Not sure if you guys have "ALDI" or as i like to call them "Oldie" but they basically buy in bulk and sell cheap.  Food, electronics, beer, all sorts of stuff.  The delay pedal is $25, and i gotta say, almost disheartens me to even consider building another rebote...What a cool idea to gut one of these and house it in your own enclosure though! Upgrade the hardware etc, "freakish blues" style :D I think there must be an onboard buffer though, because im pretty sure it uses a 2pdt.  I might try and get a hold of it off my bro-in-law and take some photos of it.

Cant link to the pedal either unfortunately!  Aldi's website is useless.  Anyway if your in oz, and your looking for a cheap first delay or feel like gutting something, you should check out the aldi / livingstone delay pedal.  Hardware is absolute garbage but yeah, amazed they can even profit on this thing for $25.
I'll see if i can get my hands on it!

BLASPHEMY!
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

blasphemy!  I rofl'ed!

Thats the beast Rob!  Can you get them in the UK?  Wouldnt be surprised if the globe has been spammed with this rubbish (talking about the hw here, the effect just sounds like a rebote to me).

From now on we have to speak in code.

The Chinese are listening in and they're building our ideas for profit!

I'll start:

$&&*&^$#@%$&()))&%#$

means 100K resistor.  ;D

I wonder if in 20 years time, chinese products will be consider high quality?  :icon_eek:

Or...the only quality! because no other country can compete with their manufacturing!

Yeah i noticed that too (drop down menu).

Anyway, i was more interested in the fact that this pedal used a pt2399.  It behaved very similar ot a rebote as well. They really are the modern delay staple IC arent they?

I saw the gearmandude shot out, i agree they are very simlar!   But like i said in the comments on that video comparison, theres more to a pedal then how it sounds (sh1t hardware for a start).

disabling the switching mechanism on a behringer, ibanez, maxon or whatever for a true bypass rehouse is an interesting challenge. sometimes you can disable an entire section of the board and cut it down smaller. akai headrush for $180 is a rehoused biyang. freakish blues is joyo. joyo copies fulltone and others. the list goes on. there are chineese people on every forum. even the noise maker boxes forum was infiltrated and we were robbed of the most useless obscure ridiculous intellectual property. proof on etsy that ciat lonbarde was ripped off. one of my original designs also magically appeared

Gee's armdnrdy's suggestion on talking code is starting to sound like a good idea :D

i bought a chinese led tester from ebay.  $5 approx.  All this thing is, is a little plastic box, 9v battery goes inside, with sockets and different resistor values to ground; a quick way to test the brightness of leds.  On the front it tells you the ma's going through the LED's.  PRETTY SIMPLE.  I noticed that some of my leds where brighter in my pedals then i recalled when using the led tester.  Opened it up and had a look.  The silkscreen on the front of the plastic box didnt match the resistor values inside the led tester...Something so simple and they still stuffed it up.  Or maybe THEY KNEW and thats why they were selling them cheap on ebay?  Wouldnt be suprised...It is definitely a time for unscrupulous merchants to thrive.  Maybe thats also why DIY is thriving atm as well...

Now im off to Aldi to buy a $25 delay pedal.  hah.  No, im not.  But ill see if i can get my hands on the thing and do a comparison with a rebote.

Intellectual property rights aside (stealing ideas is some dirty crap)  There is nothing new about the OEM/rehousing thing, anybody that has opened up an old Ibanez pedal has seen the name Maxon on the board and all of the old Morley and some of the Fender stuff was all Tel-Ray... the list goes on and on for that kind of stuff.

Not defending the stealing part, just to be clear.
New and exciting innovations in current technology!

Go to Walmart, Target, Costco, Best Buy, etc. and buy a TV, a Nook, a Kindle, an iPod, an iPhone, a computer, whatever - it will have been made in China. 90% of what is in Walmart and Target was made in China.

For me quality is not the concern, it's the fact that all these jobs that could be going to Americans are going overseas while corporations keep getting more greedy because the billions of dollars of profit last quarter still wasn't quite enough.

deadastronaut

^ yep, that's business for ya...

everyone wants 'cheap'...but ironically , that has a high price.

I've had a few of these cheap, chinese pedals over the years and they work pretty good until they break in some weird, unrepairable way 3-6 mos. later.  johnson delay anyone?  a friend of mine nicked 3 of these from the chinese import music warehouse he worked at, I don't think any of them were working 6 months later...I just don't see the point of buying and using something that is unreliable and poorly made, especially if you play live shows.   even if you replace the hardware you're left with the cheapest components it's possible to make on a crappy, poorly soldered circuit board.   but that low price is a big draw for a lot of people I guess, especially those who don't build stuff.

These types of pedals are for those people who think $300 for a guitar is like A LOT of money.
