Hi all,

Has anyone taken a look inside the Mr. Black Eterna shimmer reverberator? It's probably DSP-based since it's doing pitch-shifting shimmer reverb effects, but it made me think about this thread where chromesphere asked about the Shim Verb: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=101227.0 ...and wonder what chip is being used in the Eterna and how they did it. They're based in Portland and seem to be "boutique"ish builders. Demo vid (esp see around 5:30):

A friend of mine has one and might let me open it up, but I didn't want to reinvent the wheel (or take apart his pedal) if someone had already done it.

It's most likely the FV-1 or possibly something from Molten Voltage, but the only gut shots I've seen covered the chip half -- people are generally nice to a guy who doesn't overcharge for his work and writes some stuff for the DIY community sometimes.

Absolutely. I'm interested in learning, not cloning this, and I respect his work (and his pricing, as you said). It just sounds great, so I was curious as to how a boutique builder handled the DSP aspect of a pedal like this.

I'll check into the FV-1. Thanks!

Sounds very nice what ever it is, if it's not an FV-1 it's certainly something its capable of.

Mr. Black has a chat box on his website and he himself responded immediately. He said "DSP, proprietary chip written by me" or something to that effect.
"Never heard a man speak like this man before, never heard a man speak like this man before. All the days of my life ever since I've been born, never heard a man speak like this man before."

Good thinking! I didn't even see that box. Very cool. Well, whatever he did, it sounds really good, and if anyone is looking for a standalone shimmerverb effect that doesn't cost $300... get this one.

That sounds gorgeously lush. Reminds me of DA's video "Melancholia".

Yeah that sounds really nice, my favourite reverb pedal is the Supernatural Ambient Verb, it does a really nice shimmer.
Also I was able to dial in the spring reverb effect to just sound identical to the spring reverb on my twin reverb amp. Great pedal.
