What would cause a lag switching from bypass to effect mode?

I'm embarassed to say but the problem turned out to be my little rehoused RadioShack LM386 based "Mini Amp". It gave me a problem not too long ago with a Fulldrive II clone I made for someone where every single switch would pop, and after I figured out that it was the test amp I added a pulldown resistor and a cap on the input (it didn't even have one!) but now I get this weirdness. I've been using this ETI circuit with headphones on in my practice rig and didn't have this problem, but the little test amp exhibits this problem. Seems like this LM386 test amp does not like any circuits that use a Vref supply.

Anyway, I guess I better stop relying on that as a reliable test amp and use it to only make sure that a circuit is just functioning and that's it!  :icon_mad:

Have you used the other half of the dual opamp as an input  buffer for the circuit?

No, I don't feel the need to have a buffer on it. It's very very "touch sensitive" as it is, I don't want anything in there that will change that. Why does everyone keep saying that it needs one?
