I want to build this boost circuit , but i was wondering if a common op amp might work in circuit ??
Is there any other IC's that might work here ??

Thanks for any help !

If you allow for the difference in pinout, sure! This article:

https://www.smallbearelec.com/HowTos/BreadboardICDist/ICDist.htm

shows the use of a TL071. Half of a TL072 would also be possible. I set it up as a heavy overdrive, but you don't have to use it that way.

So will a J201 swap in for the 2SK246 once you alter the pin out etc ?

Thanks for the link !!

Sure. You should also expect to have to re-bias when you change JFETs because they vary so much in Vp and IDss.

Sounds to me like it would be easier to just order the 2SK246 ....

Is a 2SK246 used in any other common circuits ?

Numerous older BOSS pedals used it, but there is nothing special about it. The J201 and others are cheaper and more popular. Anything you use will require that the drain resistor value be tweaked, usually with a trimpot. For more info on why and how, check out the article on the Fetzer Valve at Runoffgroove. I have been referring to that a lot as I experiment.

U can try with j201+TLC2272. I've did it, and works trully great!
