Has anybody tried the Carling 3PDT footswitch yet? Would you recommend them over the blue Taiwan switches?

Not tried it - but the diagram shows that it has a very deep body - with lugs 1.076".  That wouldn't fit in a Hammond 1590B.

Yeah, it looks like the center pin would have to be bent down to fit comfortably in a 1590B.

Looking at the pic in the data sheet, I don't think any pins face downward, I believe they all come out the sides of the switch.  Doesn't look any deeper than the Taiwan X-wing "clone" switch that's around.
I've been looking for the 641 series Carling X-wing DPDT (the Carling X-wing type switches were used in the vintage MXR pedals), and can't find it anywhere.  Maybe Small Bear could order some of the 641 series X-wing style DPDT's and 3PDT's to get the price down?.
By the way, the pic on Mouser's page for the 3PDT switch is NOT the actual 3PDT switch, it shows less lugs on it, it's an SPDT or something similar.  Check the link to the data sheet.

I wouldn't buy them because of the price - $12.61 a piece. That's like 2-1/2 times your regular 3PDT switch...

@zombi

If you look at the last page of the datasheet, it clearly shows a downward facing solder lug under the "3 pole shown with solder lug" header.

That's why I suggested Small Bear buy a quantity of the Carling X-wing type 641's in DPDT and 3DPT, that would make the price far less.  The price goes down with quantity.  I hope he reads this, as he is a member of this forum.

Mouser among others show as having stock of the dpdt. The picture for it shown on the Digikey site shows an x-wing style. The datasheet shows three different terminations and the solder lugs are the 'x' style.

Yes, I know about price breaks when buying in quantity. Even so they would probably still be twice as much as the regular 3PDT switches.

Hi Al--

I have a non-Mouser wholesale source for Carling, but even there I don't expect to get a price low enough to make it worth stocking these. Now that the CIC blue switch has a strong competitor from Alpha, does anyone really need this Carling part?

I don't like the alpha 3PDT switches, the blue 3PDT's that tayda carries have a smoother feel to them.   I feel like the quality is not as good with the alpha switches and they have a less smooth feel when you click them on and off, kind of like those super cheap x-wing DPDT's feel.  that's just my opinion though.

I'd like to be able to get the Carling DPDT 641 series X-wing type switch at least, as these were used in many vintage MXR pedals, and are nice in Fuzz Faces, too.  Would be nice to be able to get them as exact replacements for the old pedals.  Those, and the Arrow DPDT's that used to be around were used in a lot of vintage pedals (like vintage Fuzz Faces).  I can't find the Carlings anywhere these days, only the cheap Taiwan version.  I guess if someone is planning on ordering quantities of switches, they would probably go for the cheaper ones, but for 1 or 2 switches at a time I don't care about the extra few dollars myself.

The only DPDT Carlings that I have ever seen in vintage MXR pedals were NOT the X-wing style. They were the 314-style like these

Am I wrong?  :-\

In fact, most of the time... the "Vintage" older MXRs used the SPDT version of these.
