Noise issue with the Axis Fuzz

Hi everybody,

A while ago I've built an Axis Fuzz on perfboard, wired the jacks, tried it - it worked - and then forgot all about it.

Yesterday though I rediscovered it, I realized that it sounds sweeeet and decided to put in in an enclosure. I did that and when i tested it, I found that it was really noisy. And I mean really noisy. When I stop playing, it starts to make a dreadful high-pitched squeal, and even while playing, the noise is still very much noticeable. The funny thing about it is that when I plug the battery in it acts normal for 3-4 seconds, no noise what so ever, and then it gradually starts to squeal.

I have retraced the circuit to see it there's something wrong with it, I've tried it again outside the enclosure, I've checked again the wiring, but noting.

And another funny thing, when I get my fingers close to the input wire (either the one from the jack to the switch or the one from the switch to the board input) the noise increases, and when I squeeze the wire between my fingers (i kid you not :) ), the noise gets even stronger.

The best I could do is to wire a .01u cap from the input to the ground, but it still doesn't cut enough of the noise (and I know, it's a cure for the sympthom, not for the disease), and it starts to sound a little bit on the muddy side.

So, have any of you guys run into this problem?
