I was organizing my electro caps and ran across some that I wasn't sure about. Example, I found some that say 0.47uf. Would this be the same as just 47uf? I Don't mean to ask stupid questions :icon_redface: Thanks.

gritz

That would be .47 as in just under one half of a microfarad, not 47 microfarads. Hope this helps a bit.

Labaris

Like gritz said, it should be 0.47uF.
The best thing would be to post a photo ;)
A long way is the sum of small steps.

Here's a few standard capacitor capacitance and voltage charts.

Save them in a file somewhere and they might come in handy some day.

I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

Say I owe you $47. (Forty Seven dollars.)

I offer you $0.47 (forty seven cents) as full payment.

Is that the same?

Make sence now. Thanks. and thank you armdnrdy for the link. That helps too

470nF is the same in anyone's language

My high school electronics teacher was an American (said with a spaghetti western drawl)

He didn't teach us about that UK/Euro Nano Farad stuff....so I'm a pico, micro kinda guy.  :icon_wink:

What might have been confusing is that we're used to seeing electrolytics from 1uF and up, and not so much <1uF. I've got a few 0.22uF, 0.33uF, and 0.47uF electrolytics in my bins.

@larry:   ;D  thats the English for ya!.....were too lazy to write 0.000047uf.....we settle for 47pf, saves on ink.  :icon_mrgreen:

Pico? mmF is good enuff. (micro-micro-Farad)

I'm used to using one or two significant digits and the appropriate suffix, mainly from years of working on labs in the first part of my career. One reason was to avoid losing zeros, but the other was because instruments and glassware were generally labeled to avoid all those zeros. You wouldn't be able to fit too many zeros on this 10uL syringe:

mmF? pffT! why not uuF?

and how come we never see the low value electros marked as xxxnF, or even XX4, all you asian manufacturers reading this?

mmmf?  pfft?   sounds like the GenYs I work with being told about their screwups... :)

The word is "micro". There's no U in micro.

Yes, all this uuuft-stuff is old-old-timers grumping.

And we used to call capacitors condensers. Back then it was microfarads and mmuf micro-micro farads.
