DIY test equipment sticky or sub forum

The deeper I fall into this stomp box building trap the more I find the need for certain test equipment.

Much of this test equipment is available for purchase and I could have just bought it, but....

Keeping with the true DIY spirit I have built much of my own. (within reason of course! I bought an oscilloscope)

My list of builds include:
Adjustable bipolar bench power supply (with voltage readout)
Frequency counter
Function generator
FET matcher (two different ones)
Bipolar Junction Transistor tester
Bipolar Junction matcher
Audio probe

and I'm working on a constant current dummy load, (to test power supply designs) and a resistance substitution box. (to try different values of resistors on the fly with a few test leads and the turn of a switch.

Now some of you may think...did he start this thread to brag about what he's built? My answer to you is ......yes! OK I'm joking  ;D

I started this thread to test the waters.

I would like to introduce the idea of starting a sub forum or a sticky which will be solely for the purpose of posting projects and schematics of test equipment that stomp box builders might find useful. I think it would be very helpful to us all for this info to be assembled into one place instead of scattered across the forum and tedious internet searches.

I would be happy to share all of my confirmed builds and information with the community, but it doesn't seem as if there is a place to share it.

What do you think?
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

Sounds like a decent plan. I guess it could also be an area with electronics resources such as:

- basic resistor connections (voltage dividers etc)
- capacitor connections (that classic "series or parallel?" question)
- standard ways to wire up a stompbox (including a nice guide to the Millenium Bypass and an explanation of the true bypass vs. buffered debate)
- tips from the pros etc...

I know some of these things are slightly covered in the debugging page, but it would be nice to have these Geofex/Beavis style guides and explanations in one place so it's nice and easy to direct people there. Obviously the more detailed explanations should stay on Geofex etc, but a quick summary would be helpful on DIYstompboxes.

What about the Schematics and Layout sub forums? What if you could post in the Wiki?

Hey Aron,

Where ever you think would be appropriate and would be easy to find.

I didn't realise pretty much all the stuff I just suggested is there on the Wiki!

But I'd agree with the idea of having a "test equipment" subforum in the schematics section. I'd find it very useful

I vote sub forum.  A Wiki always seems so final to me.  I usually get more out of the discussion of something than just seeing a schematic and layout.

Are there any more comments that might help Aron decide if and where to add a section for test equipment schematics, layouts, complete verified builds and the like?

I'm also working on a BBD tester/stage verification device. There will be two units. The first one will cover the MN30XX series and the TDA1022, and the second one will cover the MN32XX series and the SAD1024.

I've bread boarded most of the circuit and so far so good. I keep getting "called" away to work on the long list of other projects that I have lined up, but I'll get back to this soon!

I like the idea of having a test equipment sub-forum.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this.  I've sorta followed the other threads on it, but haven't had anything to contribute, so I've been silent.  Keep up the good work!

Aron sent me a PM stating that he will add a test equipment forum.  :icon_biggrin:

Now...We need some input from the community.

What shall we call the new forum? No humorous replies please.  :icon_wink:

Maybe "Equipment for testing" ?
Also, the thread called "DEBUGGING - What to do when it doesn't work" (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=29816.0) could reference to the sub-forum ?
