building footswitch

a friend of my has roland cube40xl and he wants me to build him a footswitch. but im not sure how does the damn thing work.

can anyone point me in right direction ?

I had a 20X and I built a footswitch for it. I used momentary footswitches just connected from the tip/ring of 1/4" jack to ground. If I remember correctly I had to wire them so they were NC (normally connected, the amps switched channels/effects on the switch transition from connected->open).

You can quickly verify the exact switching action with a stereo 1/4" cable and some alligator leads
