Blue Box fuzz mod ?

Hi all,

I just bought this great little unit, allready removed C11 as it was really too dark sounding, but don't have any volume problems with it.

After playing for a while with it, I would really  love the option to tame the fuzz sometimes, it's great for some songs, but sometimes i'd
rather have less or no fuzz with the octave.

If replaced by a poti R8 would act practically like a gain poti for the fuzz, by reducing the negative feedback on the amp if i'm not wrong
here, so because I have no volume problems with it, I thought about just wiring the output in direct and using the poti hole to put a
new poti and wire it in place of R8.
Is it possible with this solution to have only the octave and also is R8 the right choice or would it also change the tonality of the fuzz ?

I studied electronics a long time ago and it wasn't my cup of tea, so I understand basic circuits and know how to mod and solder, I just
have some doubts about this mod and wanted so advice.

Thanks in advance

The problem is that you really need a good square wave for the flip-flop to lock onto. If you clean up the distortion the octave effect will suffer.

Interesting, I thaught that the octave came only on Q3 then to the blend knob, i'm not familiar with the CD4013.

After trying again, I think that the C11 mod makes the fuzz oversaturate and noise is heard, I think I'll put it back as stock
and adjust my amplifer accordingly.

Can someone advise values for the R8 poti and serial resistor ? I'm not sure about the flip flop values.
