Hi there,
I'm based in the UK and I'm looking for some advice on name brands I can source here for:

1) Enamel spray paint.  I've been using Belton Molotow acrylic spray paint which retains a faint rough fleck in the surface, making it hard to fully adhere water slide decals.

2) Gloss clear coat.  I'm looking for some kind of polyurethane coating I can apply to the pedal to seal in the water slide decal and provide a professional looking finish.

And, while I'm at it -

3) Water slide decal.  I've been using decal paper supplied by a Mr Decal Paper and some solvent for softening it called Micro Sol and a setting solution called Micro Set by Micro Scale Industries Inc.

Many thanks!

I don't use decals so this might not be suitable for your needs.
I use rust oleum crystal clear that I get at a reasonable price from my local hardware store. I've seen it on amazon and ebay too.
I pay around 7 squid a can and I coat my vinyl stickers with it and powder coated boxes.
If you use this method make sure you put on a coat before sticking down the stickers.
I hope this helps
Rich

Great, thanks, Kipper! I'll look out for Rustoleum. I am familiar with it from the States but hadn't seen it here and assumed it was unavailable.

Timpecter,  Rustoleum is available in Homebase.  But their trigger mechanism on some of their cans is terrible.

Their own brand. They're not giving it away, but me and my money are not easily parted either. I think it's a better deal than B&Q or Homebase.

Kipper4

product name on the can please so i know what to look for

I've been using Rustoleum clear coat (from Halfords) and paint (B&Q, this felt expensive though...).

I tried the Wilko's clear coat but it yellowed and started to flake within a few days.  That was sprayed direct to the aluminium after a good clean with some Acetone (well, the girlfriends nail varnish remover).

I'll double check exactly what I have when I get home.

Their own brand. Works fine over a variety of paints, I'd expect some crazing over bare aluminium even if you've degreased it first, those boxes are made of pretty crappy material that seems to react with clear coats. A layer of primer and paint absorbs the small expansion and contraction of the metal which at least contributes to the crazing I'd guess.

Does everyone else sand the enclosure surfaces before clear coat?
They look way neater it's a pain of a job but worth it in my opinion.
Thanks for the help guys.

I'm using this for clear coat at the moment. It's called wilko multi-surface enamel spray paint clear lacquer. Can't find it on their website, however I did buy it before Xmas. I use plasti kote which you can get a B&Q or ebay for colours. The wilko stuff does react with that.

Thanks buddy it's a bit of a mouthful but ill make a note for next time I'm in the big city. :)

I use Lazertran decal paper (they do an inkjet version, i still clear coat it though) from my local art supplies shop, Acid #8 spray primer from Halfords, and Plasti-Kote spray paint and clear coat from B&Q.

Plasti-Kote nozzles get clogged up on the paint sometimes (never the clear coat) so I may try a different brand.

Great stuff.
Some useful resources for UK builders right there.

Just got a can of matt black spray from Aldi for £2.99.  They also have white, silver metallic, gold metallic and clear coat at the moment.  No idea on quality.
