Hey,

Anyone know where I can get tube guards besides buying on ebay?  I've seen a few online stores but, they're mostly in China and I'm not so keen to wait a year to get the parts.  Does Mouser carry them?  I always seem to have a problem navigating Mouser's site because of all the selections a person has to check off in order to find parts.

Thanks.

Do you mean those aluminum things that lock in over the tube, or the drawer handle looking things?

Try tubesandmore.com  for the aluminum covers.

I'm sorry sir, we only have the regular ohms.

You mean the cans that go around the sockets?  You have to have the right socket for the can, but you can get all that at http://www.tubesandmore.com/ - they have good prices and service, IMO.

If you mean the 'rail type things' that keep you from knocking the tube off an enclosure, you can get drawer pulls for that at Home Depot etc.

A while back I made some with washers spacers and some nuts and bolts, got it all from the hardware store for about 3 buck. I just had to drill some holes for the bolts on the drill press.

I think I could have done better cutting parts down and polishing them up but this was basically mock up to see if it would work. I think it could have used to be shorter and maybe paint it. Its still in this state so I might revisit it when I get a chance, But its a cheap alternative! Hope that helps good luck!

::::edit::::
for the 3 bucks I think I had enough to make at least 4 of em.

Brilliant, Jim.   I'll have to do that now.

And Jim's solution is great for when you have a socket with no base where you can attach the shield.
If you have:

instead of:

Then you either have a lot of soldering to do, or you have to get creative.

That's amazing.  Love the steel look and the near Jacob's Ladder machine enclosure for the tube is awesome!  Great work there.
