So a friend has tasked me to build a boost with eq, did some poking around and found a layout from general guitar gadgets- http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/projects/18-eq/46-6-band-graphic-eq

First question, has anyone build this with the 5 band eq and gain knob? If so, would that gain knob act as a boost? My fear is that the gain knob would distort too heavily which is not what i'm looking for. More of a clean boost that you can EQ.
My other thought, is it better to have these two effects as separate entities as two different pedals? There's so many great boost projects out there just wondering what angle to attack this build with.

Thanks! any and all feedback is appreciated.

"Boost with EQ" can mean a variety of things.  Is your friend looking for a simple solo boost with appropriate tonal adjustment for a solo (à la "switch to second channel"), or does he want more complex circuitry for "correcting" the tone?

"EQ" doesn'r have to be complicated to be useful.  Something like the ROG Tonemender provides nice clean boost with easy-to-find+cheap parts, and uses a Fender/Marshall style T/M/B tonestack.  http://www.runoffgroove.com/tonemender.html  And pleasigly, it can be built using the PCB layout provided, or the perfboard layout.

Probably more of the former, simple boost with appropriate tonal adjustment.

Then I will recommend the Tonemender circuit.  Does everything your friend likely needs.  When you have a chance, download the applet for the "Duncan tonestack calculator" and play around with the values i the software to get a better sense of what does what in the Tonemender circuit.  Very very flexible, and a useful tool for learning.  Check it out.  http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/

there wouldn't happen to be a version of this for mac? seems that software is only for PC.
