modding a noisy cricket to use as a preamp

Hi guys, i couldn't find any specific info on what I'm concerned about.

I recently did the effects loop mod for my vox valvetronix ad30vt, so that i can have the option to use a different preamp.
signal chain: guitar - external preamp - effects loop return - ad30vt poweramp and speaker.

Digital signal processing is fine for modulation effects, but i am not a fan of the way it clips.

The noisy cricket is meant to drive a speaker, right, so even at clean settings it pushes the poweramp into overdrive.
is there any changes i have to make to the NC circuit to make it function better?
I heard a 8 ohm resistor to ground on the output of the NC might help?

Does anyone have any experience or tips with this?

Thanks :)
