Which Ge Transistors to Buy?

Hi guys,
There are currently several options available to me for buying some Ge transistors for reasonably cheap (all my options work out at below NZ$2 per transistor) on trademe (a new zealand auction site, sort of like ebay).

My options:
GT404G x8
AC187 x12
ASY28 x10
ASY26 x10
NKT224 x50

The GT404Gs and AC187s are NPN, the others are PNP.

I'm currently leaning towards the NKT224s, because they're PNP (supposedly more reliable when it comes to Ge transistors) and because they work out at the lowest price per transistor. They are however, a bit low on the HFE side of things (all of the PNPs are a bit low on HFE). The AC187s look nice, but I'm not sure about Ge NPN transistors.

Does anyone have any recommdenations for particular transistors?

Thanks,
Edward
If at first you don't succeed... use bigger transistors!

Message paulie64 on tardme -- he's FuzzieBro, and he knows a lot about germaniums. Picked up some seriously nice ones from him, myself.

What sort of transistors did you get? I notice he's the one selling the AC187s

Some AC187's, and a couple matched pairs of PNP's. The PNP's sound great in a madbean zombii.

broken record :icon_confused::

need to know the hfe's / leakages and what you intend to build

at that cost, if the seller can't give at least some type of guarantee on  hfe's / leakages, probably skip it...

edit:
for ge starters, the Russian ones will prob give you the biggest bang for the buck (if you're not building something that needs leakage, like the TB's or FZ-1's or variants)

For instance, these military ones:

I think that'd be around NZ$ .48 per transistor?

always think outside the box

If I got the NKT224s surely there's enough range to at least find a few decent ones? The auction says they've been tested with an Atlas tester and meet spec for gain, so I'd have 50 transistors with an HFE of at least 30...

I would prefer not to spend that much money, even if I do get 100 transistors. I'd also like to buy local if possible.

Have you tried the AC187s in anything? If so, then how do they sound?

Thanks guys
