Can shorting jacks be used in pedals?

I bought a bunch of jacks without realizing they were shorting jacks so now the circuit works, but I have no sound (unless I put the guitar cord partially into the jack). Is there anything I can do to make these usable? Like solder the two prongs together? Or is there an alternate way of wiring the pedal that will work? Sorry if this has been answered before, but after googling most of the night I can't find an answer.

Try bending the "shorting" switch out of the way to where it doesn't make contact with the tip.
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)
