I'm not sure if I like it. Someone talk me down from this ledge.

See if you can get black plastic washers for the stomps (as opposed to the normal white) and that would look amazing :D

my only "negative" remark would be the size of the stars , some are a bit lge , but then again i often forget , a pedal is viewed from 5 to 6 feet , not close up . thats a lot of "forgiveness" ... for a first effort , its fantastic .

also , are you planning to continue building ? if yes , wiegh that out with the time you will spend messing around .

i have often had one thig in my head , painted and its a totally different thing . i always box it up and move on , after a week , it doesnt bother me in the slightest , i mean , they really are meant to be heard more than objects of art , but the other side of the coin is there too .

it doesn't take too long to install everything , then rip it all out so ... box it up and give it a week or so ...  thats what i would say .

have fun man .
im learning , we'll thats what i keep telling myself

I would buy that in a heartbeat. If it didn't have such a strange drilling layout, I'd be PM'ing you to ask for it. Love the size of the stars.

I think it looks awesome.

Trust me when I say it will look better and have more depth after you clear coat it. I can't tell you how many boxes I thought looked flat or dull that really came to life with just a shiny coat on top.

The drilling temp is not weird. The box was sideways when I took the pic but couldn't turn it cuz it was wet

I understand the orientation, but the LED placement is what I'm calling weird. Weird being subjective; you can put your LEDs where you please.

Like I said, I would, without a doubt, pay you to replicate that on an enclosure for me.

I like it the way it is and... like Jon said clearing will really enhance your painting. I always find when in doubt, walk away leave for 24hrs then take another look, if i still feel blah about it, paint more or paint over or power sand so there's no going back then start over... no big deal.

Looks fantastic. I struggle with painting a box plain white!

My daughter had a great art teacher who told her, "there are no mistakes in art, just results you didn't intend."

I am among the crowd that really likes it. What sort of paint have you used?

Hello!
I think your pedal is looking great!

I´m a painter and illustrator and have been practising airbrush/spraypaint for some time.

- keep on doing that stuff and it will be even improving (e.g. the borders of the planet-stencil
and your splattering-technique :D )

- with those random-techniques like splattering it´s always improving the impression of reality,
if you add a small couple of non-random details (e.g. highlights and shadows in the calderas). Maybe
with acrylics and a very fine brush. That usually lets people go like ´Wow, photorealism!´ ;)

And yes, clearcoating is obligatory, to protect your artwork and let it shine.
Did you use metal primer? Would also make the colours more durable...
With stuff like this, DIY really rules. Go for it!

Im sure theres a name for the effect, but if you've ever seen a boat on a lake or ocean at night in a movie and they do a camera zoom on it, the moon looks F'n huge, while boat still looks a bit far off and small.

Basically, one could make the argument that the planet and stars are being looked at through a telescope, so they're going to increase somewhat in apparent size.

Looks good as is to me.  :icon_wink:

as a corpse floating around in space i noticed the stars are not in the astronomically correct positions..

for example, the 3 stars which are obviously meant to resemble orions belt  mintaka, alnilam, and alnitak are at an opposite angle of what they should be in the sky. (unless observed from zeta reticuli or tau ceti of course)

also i noticed that the milky way is at least 0.07 degress of what it would be if viewed from that same perspective.

however, the earth does look correct if viewed from 780.000,062 miles away... ;D ;) 8) 8) 8).......beep.................................................................beep..........................................................beep......................................................................

The paint job is horrible and the enclosure is utterly ruined.  It also looks like the particular mixture of paints used will make it unlawful to dispose of as part of regular garbage collection.

PM me and I'll send you my address so you can ship the enclosure to me.  I'll take care of disposing of the enclosure in a safe and appropriate manner.

Laughing so hard I woke my roommate, who is wondering why there's newspapers all over the shower and tub.

The primer I used was rustoleum aluminum primer. I assume this was the right thing to use for aluminum. Then I hit it with a thousand coats of satin white rustoleum. Tried to water slide decal it and failed until I ran out of decal paper and was so frustrated I was ready to quit. Then I spray painted it. All paints are rustoleum.

The only issue I had was spraying wet on wet colors did not always mix properly. I had some curdling which the clear coat is starting to conceal nicely

peterg

Does multiple layers of rustoleum cure to a hard finish? I've been using krylon and find they don't harden completely
