Anyone ever use 3pdt.com for their pcb's or kits?

Just came across this site today and wondered if anyone has any feedback on this website. It's apparently a Chinese company which always makes me a little nervous in regards to shipping and order fulfillment, but more than that I can't seem to find anything with regards to how these sound. Also, the kit prices on there are crazy cheap which kinda threw up another red flag.

"Foxx® Tone Maschine Fuzz"

????

Full kit for the Foxx is $24.90
"Full Kit" means all parts and EVERYTHING you need to build this effect are included, transistors, ICs, jacks, potentiometers, PCB, DC jack, 3PDT footswitch... . Not included are wire, tin, enclosure, knobs.

Actually, not all that cheap.

See http://www.geofex.com/effxfaq/bldfx.htm - which was written in the late 1990s, by the way. It's still a reasonable explanation. The changes are that the electronics and PCBs are *cheaper* now, and the mechanical parts are the same or more expensive.

3PDT.com is selling you the cheap, easy stuff and probably making a handsome profit doing it.

I find it amusing that although vintage pedals still command high prices, the boutique clones of the vintage stuff have been advertised into the same stratospheric ranges.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I guess that's a necessary business measure to achieve any profit as a small-scale pedal manufacturer. Nice article, good read.

From looking at the 'Effects Economics 101' I'd say mechanical parts and enclosures are cheaper today too. A 1590BB at Taydaelectronics costs 6.90$ and pots, jacks and knobs are 0.5$ each. Still competing with major companies is real though. Unless you label your stuff "boutique" I guess  :icon_wink:

Wow, so he copied my layouts for the Dipthonizer and Tone Machine. How incredibly lazy.

A friend asked me to help him build a Small Stone Phaser. I see that they have the pcb.

Since I don't usually use pcbs, I don't know many sellers outside of the common ones mentioned here...

Who else sells that pcb? My friend wanted to build the earliest version.

thanx
