I am looking into building one of these as my next small project.

http://www.beavisaudio.com/projects/NoisyCricket/

I like how the original Noisy Cricket had a 2nd LED for the grit switch but I don't see one in the Mark 1/Mark II schematic on the site. If you were going to add one back in....would it go right behind the switch in front of C4?

Also.....Let's say I wanted D1 to be more than one led for aesthetic purposes....Could I just place them in series?

Thanks for the help guys.

'Behind the switch' doesn't make too much sense, but in order to have an LED operate with the grit switch, you will need to use a DPDT switch rather than the SPST or SPDT that is used in the schematic. One side of the switch will operate the grit modification, the other will switch and LED on or off. You can wire it like any of the truebypass schemes you see/the same way R3, D1 and the power switch are wired.

Connect V+ to a 4k7 resistor, then the resistor to the anode of the LED. The cathode will go to the middle lug of one side of the DPDT. Connect one of the outside lugs to ground. When the switch is closed, the LED will light up. Use the same lugs as you used for the grit side of the DPDT so that when the grit is engage, so is the LED, otherwise the LED will light up when the grit is off.

For the LED's, you will probably be ok - you may need to change R3 to change the brightness. There are a couple of LED calculators for series/parallel LED's on the internet you can use. Google them. Get the forward voltage and mA, the power supply voltage and how many LED's, plug it into the calculator, and it will spit out the right value for R3 (most likely).

I can't help much with the LED but I just made an order of some pcbs for the MKII with oshpark if your interested =}

That is of course assuming it works

Mth5044 I was definitely over thinking that one. What you said makes perfect sense. Thanks for the help

pappasmurfsharem So you are selling the pcb for this build? I am definitely interested if the price is right.

I'll have to test them when they get here just started using eagle, placed a few other orders.

But Iunno $5 + shipping? Can ship however you want usps with stamps even would be extra cheap. I'm not particularly interested in getting into the pcb business unless there is interest maybe I'll do a make to order thing just order by request.

Sounds like a good price to me. However I was planning on getting started on this one pretty soon. How long do you think before you get one and are able to test it?

Just sent to the fab this morning so probably like two weeks I'll assemble as soon as it gets to the door .

But if you are anything like me patience is not a virtue in this hobby.

No harm no foul
