Wiring Question

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've posted, I've been fairly successful in my builds and fortunately haven't had to ask any dumb questions!

However, yesterday and this morning I've been stumped. I built up a Triple Wreck, and while I've yet to debug that circuit, I've come across a strange input/output jack problem. I don't know how I've done this, but I've got it wired up in a way that the in/out are interchangeable...when I connect my guitar to the output jack and run my patch cable from the input jack, I still get bypass. (I don't get any effect yet, I'm still working my way up to that haha)

Have any of you experienced this before? I'm using only mono jacks, if it makes a difference. I'm totally stumped here. I've googled it, I can't find anything on the topic. Maybe I built up a bogus circuit? I dunno, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I understand what you wrote correctly I can't see why you would be stumped. In bypass mode the grounds of the jacks are tied together and the leads to the tips of the plugs are also tied together. There is no in and out difference just a straight signal path through.

Really? I wonder if my other pedals are wired differently then, because when I have my ins and outs switched, I don't get any bypass.

Your other pedals may not be "true" bypass.

Follow the signal through the wires. When in bypass, you can imagine that the jacks are just connected together with wires, tip to tip. Since these wires swing both ways, there is no difference. That is 'true' bypass. Putting a circuit on the other side of the switch is going to make it matter since it is not as open with its directionality as the promiscuous wire.
