Hey guys,

I'm a complete newbie in midi stuff hence asking your advice.

I found this vid on youtube of transforming Korg nanokontrol in foot pedal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKxVDZDxLak
And I'm wondering will it work as a midi foot controller for stymon timeline or mobius with a usb to midi cable?
Or it's not fully midi device?

Cheers!

yep that'll work as a midi footcontroller... i saw that vid a while back, 8)

you can use a qwerty keyboard too..

but i'd go with the nano..

AFAIK MIDI-Usb cables are solely designed to work as a MIDI-addon for a computer. Tucking one end into a USB slot an a different device will not result in said device gaining MIDI capabilities.
I haven't looked at the Nano mod, and there's loads of stuff I don't know, but I don't think there are exceptions. They require a computer to work.

^ correct, it will work with DAWS  and mobius etc...where there are midi options to set.

Thanks,
any ideas on how to program it, so it can "talk" to strymon mobius or timeline?

deadastronaut

no idea on strymon/timeline...

but mobius (though i briefly tried it)  wil accept midi commands..

midi channel 1, then prog number i guess...

midi 2 etc...midi 3...etc etc..

your best bet is asking the guy who made the vid...he uses ableton etc..

and said he uses mobius too.

Thank you so much for that link!  It's pretty close to exactly what I'm going to do here.  I bought two of those little suckers last month.  He pretty much confirmed what I had figured with the thing, and gave me some ideas, except...

I watched the one about the pots.  It would be really cool if that worked and I could just wire straight to the pots without removing them.  Problem is, if they're actually wired as voltage dividers then it's a bit weird, no?  You'd almost have to set all of the existing knobs and faders at exactly halfway, and then I'm still not sure what would happen trying to run a pot parallel to that.  The taper would probably be weird if nothing else.  If they're wired as variable resistors then it's easy - just turn them all the way up.  I haven't had the chance to meter anything inside it yet.  Any idea what value those pots are?  It's probably not critical, but he didn't mention what size pots he hacked in, and I don't think really knows or cares that it might make a difference.

Edit - I found this guy who says he used 10K pots.  I'm still kinda confused by how this works.  Nobody seems to complain that it works funny, but it can't possibly except accidentally if they're wired as pots, and if they're wired as variable resistors (presumably half of a voltage divider with some other resistance somewhere) the two in parallel should throw the divider ratio off and limit the range somehow, right?  What am I missing here?   :icon_question:  (I know I should just poke around with my meter and work it out, I'm just not there right now to do it)
