i'm going to post this in both french and english, in case...

hello everyone,
i've been living in paris for a little over 2 years now and i unfortunately heard that the only boutique-pedal store, mojo (NOS), recently closed.
my purpose is not to open a new one (cause i sort of still am in the beginner phase here...) but rather to meet people who make pedals, modules, amps, whatever, and try to make meetings or gatherings happen to exchange and try to help eachother with advice, exchange knowledge, maybe buy componants together, etc.
if anyone is interested, let's try to do something!

J'ai habité Paris jusqu'en 2007, malheureusement je n'étais pas encore dans le DIY à cette époque...

I lived in Paris until 2007, unfortunately I wasn't into DIY at that time...

Bonne chance dans tes recherches !

Ou se trouve Jacques stompboxes?  Je crois qu'il est en France.

J'ai trouvé aussi cette vendeur, mais je sais pas ou le magasin se trouve.:  http://www.fillingdistribution.com/

Will.mendil

Je vois qu'on parle de moi :p
That could be an idea. However I would be embarrassed that there are only two from Paris on this forum.
Maybe start a little "made in France" series :)  lol I am actually far from that. But yeah sure. Do you have any builds yet?

yes i have: passive AB box, lpb1 clone (with salvaged phone parts), fuzz face clone (ac128), a small 386 amp, maestro bass brassmaster clone (ggg kit), for those that actually work... i recently made a big muff rick holt style but it is still untested.
i want to start etching PCBs now, learn more about electronics, and move foreward, but i think i need a little push!

depends on which neigbourhood you want to live in, how big you want your flat, shared of not, and your requirements about safetyness (but paris is not a dangerous place, there are just a few places you want to avoid at night), but let's say between 600€ and 800€ (between $825 and $1100) for a decent place.

The key thing here is size. Depending on where the person who asked is from, he/she might be used to having (for example, I'm from Montreal) pretty good sized apartments for around let's say 800$. Whereas in Paris, I remember friends who lived in "chambres de bonnes" or "maid's chambers" with the toilet at the end of the hall shared by all other apartments on the floor... and their rent was over 500€ ! (~700 USD). I had a single-roomed flat, fully furnished, with a fireplace and chimney for 811€ (over 1100 USD). Living alone there was ok but as a couple, I would've felt cramped up.

I really laugh when people ask if Paris is safe. I mean of course there are dodgy areas. Especially in the suburbs but no guns, free healthcare, no corruption I mean Washington donc is he'll compared to here. ( been there, got lost, hard times). Sure people are arseholes ( me included) compared to canada. I do sometimes wonder what is Paris' reputation abroad. ;)

Well, I lived in Paris for 5½ years, went out almost every night and got home often as the sun rose.
I used to walk home from just about anywhere in the city (I didn't mind 1,5-hour walks, it helped getting rid of the alcohol  ;) )

I've never felt threatened, in any way. I'm pretty sure that if you stay inside what's called "Paris intra-muros" (within the bounds of the "Périphérique" boulevard), you'll be just fine.

Avoiding the northern suburbs is also a safety precaution.

Why ? Does she have a reputation for night life ?
I did run into a drunk Gérard Depardieu on his huge chopper, he almost ran us over because he failed to stop at a red light.
We went "Hey look, it's Gérard DepaAAAHH LOOK OUT!!"

I've been to Paris twice.  Love the city and the people (although not a fan of the French in general).  Parisians have a bit more class and more understanding.

It is my wife's favorite city.  We got engaged at the Eiffel Tower on Valentines Day in 2008.

I have traveled abroad significantly, and Paris is an outstanding city, and safe.  Never have I felt threatened at all.  Agreed the northern suburbs are dodgy-- nice view of them coming in from the airport on the train.

I met a guy (bartender) at the Hurling Pub, in the Latin Quarter by the University-- who was in a death metal band.  His name was "Sam."  I often wonder if he is still there.  He was a character, and bought us (Americans) shots of Jameson's whiskey all night.  My wife does not drink much-- let alone whiskey.  That turned out to be a very fun night!  I have pictures.

I would love to visit again.

I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

Heh.
I actually never saw a motorbike that big. Large tires, all shiny-chromy metal... it was "un-unnoticeable". Made a heckuvallotta noise too !
But I guess a guy like Gérard needs a lot of support...
