Small Clone Power Caps

I'm used to seeing parallel caps in the power smoothing/filtering section, but typically they are a big electro (~100u) with a smallish ceramic (~100n).  The electro doing the smoothing and the ceramic providing a low impedance path for EMI/RFI noise as well as a small fast reserve.  But in the Tonepad Small Clone (Heladito) the two caps are 220u and 10u.  Why?  Is the 10u there because the 220u is too slow?  Would it be wise to replace the 10u with a 100n ceramic?

This is on my future builds list.
Thanks for asking this Gord.
I hadn't even noticed that.

Hmmm... interesting.  I built mine on the tonepad board exactly to spec and it's gorgeous.  Can't think why there are two caps unless 230uF is a magic number?   ;)   There's a pair of spare pads for the 220uF anyway - I guess you could use those?  If you wanted to play safe, I guess you could tack a small cap across the power lines, particularly in close proximity to the chips.

Ohm's Law - much like Coles Law, but with less cabbage...

I'm doing my own layout (re-working Tonepad's) so I think I'm going to just leave the 10u out and add in a 100n ceramic.  Odd though - wish there was an answer.

Be sure to let us know the outcome please Gord.
Are you going to publish your layout?
Thanks
Rich

I'll definitely make it available.  The layout is almost done, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to build and verify it.  I haven't had time to build lately so I've been forging ahead picking away at layouts in preparation for when I do have time.  I have six layouts ready to go now so the Small Clone will be the seventh, and there's one more already in the works.  Wasn't planning on doing the Small Clone for a while but I may do it first since I need a chorus more than anything else right now.

I think that is the right answer.  You have two oscillators in the circuit and although the frequencies are low, the edge slew rates are high, so ceramic or film capacitors are needed.
