1750A supply or substitute for cheap?

Hi,

I am wanting to build a murder on which needs a 1750A fender transfomer.I have looked online and I only could find them at $20+ with the same price for shipping. Can anyone give me a website similar to tayda where I could get a cheap version of this with cheap shipping fee? Maybe a substitute, it does not have to be fender.

It's hard to tell what shipping will cost seeing as I don't know where you are  But there it is.

France. It is pretty expensive. Is this the standard price? Maybe a cheaper not fender substitute ?

That is the standard price as far as I can find, and this is the Hammond replacement for the original Fender part, but shipping to France would definitely be expensive on that.

Edit: I found one as cheap as $17.00, but it doesn't list shipping to France

As I understand it the transformer is what really gives the power to the tubes. You can run the tubes at lower current, but they won't sound as good or give as much power as you want them to. That's why high power amps always weigh more than less powerful, and why I laugh at something that claims to be "300W" when it only weighs a couple of pounds

That's what I thought. I guess I'll save up a bit more for one. However, if you put this amp without the transformer at the end of your pedal chain and plug it into a solid stat amp. Should you get a tube behaviour with the headroom deal etc?

I've never tried this particular amp before, and I don't have a lot of experience with 6111's or 5672's, but I've tried running 12AX7's at low voltage without a transformer and it just doesn't give the tube enough across the heaters to really get the 12AX7 sound you expect. Would it work without the transformer? Probably. Will it sound amazing? My guess is no. I usually associate higher voltages with more headroom.

So it's a pain, but if these amps are as good as every single post I found about them then it will be worth the extra money to get the transformer.

The higher voltage for the Murder One tubes comes from a voltage multiplier chip. The transformer is an audio transformer that drives the speaker. If you leave out the transformer, I'm guessing that you'll get little to no sound from your speaker.

Maybe someone could tell you if a solid state amp would work in place of the transformer, such as a 386 based noisy cricket. That kinda defeats the point of having an all tube amp, though.

The transformer specified is for fender reverbs. Maybe you could find another reverb transformer, possibly from a nonworking amp.

Musikding are thieves. Their stuff is of rubbish quality and their customer services are right down insulting. I really need to write a review.

will and vigil, there was a thread recently discussing OP transformers. some info was given on replacing extremely expensive tx's you can't get with cheap and available power transformers. try searching for output transformer impedance, something like that.
