Mute Pedal

Is there any such thing as a mute pedal? I know that tuners work but just wondering if there is a different pedal that would work. Preferably a diy pedal but if that isn't possible what kind of pedal would be best to use.

Just a switch that grounds the output would do it.

Ok, so if I have it at the beginning of my chain when it's on it mutes everything, but when off it will be bypassed and my other pedals will still work.

No.  If you put it at the front of your chain it will mute the input to the beginning of the chain.  Any noise added downstream will still go through to the amp.  Shorting as described is better than leaving it open by far, but putting the mute at the front WILL be noisier than putting it as the last pedal in the chain.

1 = amp
2 = last effect in
3 = ground

note that this isn't the way I'd do it ... I'd do an H11F1 to block the signal instead. But this is the simplest way.

This would give a level pot for the mute (or could just be replaced with a wire), and would also ground the input to pedals further down the chain, the outline above seems to leave the input to those pedals hanging rather like unplugging the cable from the guitar.

If you built it right, you could have a bypass switch but also a MOMENTARY, so you could manually stutter a bit....just a side comment...wouldn't do it at 40 Hz or anything, just for burps.

turn your guitar signal on/off and do a cool stuttering effect too.
